FIWARE technology provides a simple set of public and royalty free powerful APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) which could be integrated or adapted to form the building blocks of ICT applications and services. An open-source framework ofFIWARE components is available to make the adoption of this technology easier and much more cost-effective, significantly decreasing the development cycles of ICT products and services built around it. FIWARE has been supported by the European Commission since 2011. Together with other similar accelerators, FINODEX contributes substantially to creating an open innovative ecosystem in favour of growing European presence in the Internet and ICT sectors.
The EC has made €80 million available to SMEs and web entrepreneurs who are interested in the use of FIWARE technologies. This has been done through the creation of an acceleration programme, FIWARE Accelerate, under which 16 accelerators have been selected successful ideas from EU entrepreneurs. Zabala is the coordinator of one of these accelerators, FINDOEX, which counts with an overall fund of €4.64m to support over 100 projects interested in reusing open data and making use of the FIWARE technologies. Some of these innovative selected projects are now showcasing at the project’s YouTube Channel. (Videos).
FINODEX has selected over 100 projects selected for acceleration out of 500 received proposals. The accelerated companies are receiving, besides the equity-free funding, services like coaching, mentoring, training in FIWARE technologies and the possibility to be part of a network comprised by over a thousand EU entrepreneurs, and over 100 of stakeholders involving the public sector, corporates and the top-research entities in Europe. Each of the selected project has received between €10k and €170k equity-free funding.
