Market Place of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities

The Market Place of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP-SCC Market Place) follows a bottom-up strategy bringing together cities, industry, SMEs, banks, research and other smart city actors. In this respect, it works as a collaborative tool, enabling the creation of networks among stakeholders and the exchange of knowledge including best practices. The role of the EIP-SCC given by the European Commission is to identify and propose priorities aiming at promoting innovation in European cities. The EIP-SCC will be key in defining the thematic guidelines which will receive European funding in the future.

Project:
Management of the Market Place of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities
Programme:
Horizon2020
Period:
December 2013 December 2016
Sector:
Smart Cities
01
The Challenge:

Today 80% of European citizens live in urban areas, and 85% of the EU’s GDP is generated in cities. Many European cities are forerunners in the much-needed transition towards a low carbon, resource efficient and competitive economy. Cities are central to delivering on key challenges for Europe’s society and economy: jobs, growth and investment, innovation, energy- efficiency, low-carbon development and CO -reduction - to name a few.

02
Solutions:

Linking and upgrading infrastructures, technologies and services in key urban sectors (transport, buildings, energy, ICT) in a smart way will improve quality of life, competitiveness and sustainability of our cities. This is a strong growth market, estimated globally to be worth €1.3 trillion in 2020 - a great export market for European business.

03
Impacts:

Since demand for better infrastructures and services is high and still increasing but public budget is under pressure, knowledge needs to be shared effectively and capacities developed.  Many successful initiatives and projects are currently underway in Europe. This is the place to provide and promote information about your existing projects and share your successes.
