The CIRCUSOL project (Circular business models for the solar energy industry) is an European initiative funded by the Horizon2020 Program of the European Commission. Its main objective aims to establish solar power as a spearhead sector to demonstrate a path driven by Product-Service System (PSS) business models towards a circular economy.

The Challenge: 

The main challenge of CIRCUSOL project is to efficiently use resources for the growth of the solar energy sector to create a key circular economic model for resource efficiency and reduce the generation of waste.

Solutions: 
Offer tangible innovations for the solar energy, second life PV certificates and battery labeling/certification and cost/application analysis; as well as, business cases and an ICT platform to share and manage information. But that’s not all, they plan to do 5 large-scale, real-life demonstrators that will be set up in 3 different market segments, in 3 European countries (France, Belgium and Switzerland) to validate market acceptance, business viability and resource efficiency benefits.

Impacts: 

The impact of this project of this project is to achieve a sustainable economy, low in carbon, efficient in the use of resources and competitive; as well as contributing to a more efficient Europe in the use of resources, while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and thus also creating new business and employment opportunities.
