01
The Challenge:

The new data protection regulation has been developed to give individuals better control over their personal data. Switching from one service provider to another entails significant cost and difficulty for users. Data processing service providers must develop interoperable formats for data portability as soon as possible. There are therefore major technological challenges in this area that must be addressed in order to provide a solution and translate the regulation into reality.

02
Solutions:
DAPSI will promote advanced research in the field of data portability by supporting researchers, SMEs and start-ups or innovators across Europe with a 9-month incubation programme. During this period, the selected teams will receive financial support (up to €150k per team) and a package of services such as coaching and mentoring in the necessary technology and business areas, which will pave the way for them to successfully reach the market with their use cases.
03
Impacts:

Through a total of 3 calls, the 50 brightest researchers and innovators in Europe will be selected. A total of €5.6m will be spent on bringing their solutions to market. Specifically, 35 of them will reach the end of the incubation with an MVP (Minimum Viable product) with great market potential in the short to medium term.

The GDPR approved in 2018 poses new opportunities and challenges for Europe in the use of personal data. DAPSI will support the advancement of solutions in the field of data portability, led by the most brilliant internet innovators ”
