Igor Idareta

Igor Idareta holds a degree in Industrial Engineering with a specialisation in Mechanics from the Public University of Navarre, and a BEng (Hons) in Design Engineering from Staffordshire University (UK). With over 20 years of experience in innovation consultancy, he has become a leading figure in the financing and management of European R&D and innovation projects.

From the early days of the Fifth Framework Programme to the current Horizon Europe and Innovation Fund, Igor has successfully led initiatives under key programmes such as LIFE, CIP-EcoInnovation and Intelligent Energy Europe. His professional journey is marked by a steadfast commitment to sustainability, energy transition, and emissions reduction.

His expertise also spans sustainable infrastructure and regional development, with participation in projects under CEF Transport, CEF Energy and Interreg III. At Zabala Innovation, he currently leads a multidisciplinary team focused on energy, mobility, industry and environment, driving projects aligned with the European Green Deal.

With a strategic focus on technology transfer, the commercialisation of R&D results, and industrial sustainability, Igor Idareta champions innovative solutions in key areas such as Climate, Energy, Transport, Circular Economy and Zero Pollution. His leadership and vision make him a prominent figure in Europe’s sustainable innovation ecosystem.
