The European Data Incubator (EDI) project will promote Big Data among European companies. The University of Deusto coordinates this consortium, made up of 20 entities from ten European countries, in which ZABALA Innovation Consulting also participates. Through the project’s actions, companies and start-ups will be helped to avoid the obstacles they encounter when trying to develop strategies for the use and exploitation of data.
EDI will empower start-ups and SMEs to make use of tools to solve complex challenges in different businesses. To this end, 15 organisations also participating in the project will make their data available so that applications and solutions can be developed with these resources.
EDI will assist European SMEs and start-ups with a cloud-hosted high-performance computing and storage infrastructure based on open technologies with training and mentoring in Big Data Analytics tools and business building for the development of viable business ideas, as well as funding (they will be able to access up to €100,000 in direct funding).
EDI will contribute to reversing Europe’s role in the global market for companies exploiting Big Data, “where only two of the world’s top 20 companies are European.” For this task, the consortium intends to offer a “closer perspective” to make Spain a benchmark in this field in southwest Europe, at a time when the digitisation of the productive fabric “is a key factor for the competitiveness of the territories.”

This project has been financed by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme, under grant agreement No. 779790.

“EDI is one of the best open innovation opportunities for start-ups and data-driven organisations in Europe.”
