Zabala Innovation manages the European project SLIM, “Sustainable Low Impact Mining solution for exploitation of small mineral deposits based on advanced rock blasting and environmental technologies,” led by the Polytechnic University of Madrid. SLIM includes a broad package of Social Innovation actions led by Zabala Innovation, as an expert in this field.
Challenge
SLIM aims to minimise the impact of mineral extraction techniques in small deposit mines, including deposits of high chemical complexity or low mineral quality.
Solution
Introduction of technological advances to minimise the impact and eliminate risks, considering the economic, social and environmental dimensions of the mines, in order to reach agreements with local populations, with a package of Social Innovation actions that includes information and participation processes with the communities involved and key social agents.
Results
Among other aspects, it will improve the efficiency of mining activity by 25%, reduce vibrations and derived noise by 20-25%, as well as energy consumption by 20%, and greenhouse gases by 10%.

Zabala Innovation worked on monitoring regional R&I policies in Spain, within the RIM project.

Zabala's role was crucial in supporting the leader in executing the interviews with the various stakeholders involved, designing the strategic workshops and analysing the information available mainly for Spain.

In the final phase, ZABALA completed the detailed analysis of potential mechanisms, drew up the conclusions of the study and prepared a series of proposals to improve the existing mechanisms.

HORIZON EUROPE
In this document, our colleague Blanca Rodriguez shows us the keys to successfully writing a good Impact section.
We lead leading European projects and studies in different sectors, such as smart cities, energy and environment, ICT, biotechnology and open innovation. Our goal is to innovate and to create new paths within the European innovation ecosystem.

The important thing is not to keep moving, but rather to know in which direction to go. Our 37% success rate proves that we know how to guide our clients.
Our compass is our clients; our mission is to solve their problems, guiding them so that innovation becomes their key to competitiveness.
