COLLABORATIVE SPACE
Market Place of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities
Zabala Innovation managed, in the 2014-2016 period, the Market Place of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities, a space for collaboration and networking that is part of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP-SCC).
The European Commission has contracted the international consortium, led by ZABALA for this service.
Challenge
80% of the European population lives in urban spaces, and 85% of the GDP is generated in cities. Cities consume more than 70% of the EU’s energy and generate 75% of greenhouse gas emissions. They are key spaces for addressing economic and social challenges and making the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Solution
New solutions in Mobility, Energy and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are the tools for the improvement of urban spaces that will have a positive impact on the quality of life as well as Europe’s sustainability and competitiveness. The global market for Smart Cities will reach 1.3 trillion euros by 2020, an opportunity for European companies.
Results
The demand for better infrastructure and services is growing. In a situation of public budgets under pressure, boosting cooperation and sharing knowledge are indispensable conditions. Innovative solutions require new business models and financing.
