Zabala Innovation celebrates European Mobility Week 2024 with initiatives that promote sustainable mobility and raise awareness about its importance
The European Mobility Week 2024, celebrated from September 16 to 22, offers us an annual opportunity to rethink how we move. This year, under the slogan ‘Together, we mix & move!’—aligned with the European Commission’s slogan ‘Mix & Move’—Zabala Innovation has launched a series of activities aimed at promoting sustainable mobility and establishing commuting habits that last beyond this annual celebration.
Our activities have stood out for the involvement and commitment of the entire team, reflecting our shared purpose of contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.
The European Mobility Week 2024 kicked off with the launch of an internal idea contest in our Innovation Hub, inviting all employees to propose innovative solutions for improving mobility at Zabala Innovation. The submitted proposals reflect the team’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, showcasing their creativity and practical approach.
Additionally, we opened the week by sharing an interview with Sergio Úbeda, leader of the Transport Area at Zabala Innovation. In the interview, he explained the importance of digitalization for efficiently managing mobility and the significant challenges the sector will face in the coming years.
Throughout the week, employees from various locations shared photos of their daily commutes by bicycle, on foot, or using public transport. All participants in this initiative came together to demonstrate their commitment to more environmentally friendly mobility, extending beyond just a week of awareness.
The third day featured several team members who choose bicycles as their mode of transport. Nora Franco, Adrián Rivas, Aritz Goñi, and Adriana Mendívil shared their personal experiences, from motivations to challenges faced when opting for sustainable mobility. Their testimonies highlight health and environmental benefits, as well as the obstacles that must be overcome to encourage its adoption.

To incorporate an active break into the workday, we organized a walk around the different Zabala Innovation offices. At the headquarters in Mutilva, we explored the Sanquin area, a natural setting surrounding the office; in Bordeaux, the team enjoyed the botanical park, while in Paris, they walked along the Seine River, with views of the Eiffel Tower. This initiative, aligned with the ‘Mix & Move’ slogan, allowed the team to enjoy a moment of disconnect, breathe fresh air, and promote healthy habits like walking.
We concluded the week with the launch of a practical guide with recommendations for promoting more sustainable mobility at each of our locations. This guide includes a plan for celebrating World Car-Free Day on Sunday, September 22, without using cars.
At Zabala Innovation, this European Mobility Week 2024 has demonstrated that our commitment to sustainability and innovation remains stronger than ever. This week has given us the opportunity to try new mobility habits, rethink our existing ones, and, most importantly, come together as a team to drive positive change. We firmly believe that with the efforts of each person at Zabala Innovation, we can achieve a real and lasting impact.
The European Mobility Week is an initiative of the European Commission held annually to raise awareness about the impact of travel on public health and the environment. This year, under the slogan ‘Mix & Move!’ and focusing on ‘Shared Public Space,’ it invites reflection on how to use urban space more efficiently and sustainably.
For the European Mobility Week 2024, 713 Mobility Actions have been registered in Spain, highlighting the participation of various institutions, including companies like Zabala Innovation. These actions seek to establish structural and permanent changes in mobility habits.
Through this participation, both institutions and companies reinforce their role in building a more environmentally friendly mobility model, demonstrating that sustainability is a common goal.
