WORLD OCEANS DAY

Lisbon office visits the Oceanario to discover marine ecosystems

World Oceans Day

To mark World Oceans Day, the Zabala Innovation team in Lisbon held a special event last Thursday, 5 June, where the ocean and its conservation took centre stage. The initiative is part of the company’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its aim to foster greater environmental awareness internally across all teams.

The main activity of the day was a guided tour of the Oceanário de Lisboa, one of the largest aquariums in Europe and internationally recognised for its innovative approach to scientific outreach and marine life conservation. During the visit, participants explored a fascinating underwater world: over 8,000 marine creatures from 500 different species, spread across habitats representing the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Antarctic and Arctic oceans.

The experience was enriched by the insights of an expert guide, who shared facts and curiosities about the species, alarming data on the current state of marine ecosystems, and practical tips on how we can all help protect them in our daily lives. It was a moment to learn, be inspired and reflect on the importance of protecting the oceans — a vital source of life and a key element in climate regulation.

After the tour, the team shared a group lunch, taking advantage of the good atmosphere to exchange thoughts, continue the conversation and enjoy a relaxed moment together outside the usual work environment.

This celebration adds to other initiatives that Zabala Innovation organises across its different offices to mark international awareness days. Activities like this aim to promote sustainability, well-being and culture among our teams, contributing to a more human and engaged workplace connected to global challenges.
