Artificial Intelligence and Robotics hold vast potential across multiple sectors, promising improved standards of living, safer mobility, better healthcare, new job opportunities, and personalized public services. However, the adoption of these technologies faces significant challenges, particularly regarding trust and performance reliability, which hinder their widespread uptake. Furthermore, the European open innovation landscape suffers from fragmentation and isolation, with initiatives and organizations operating independently and a lack of collaboration between stakeholders and sustainable funding models for open innovation.
To address these challenges, there is a pressing need to establish a participatory methodology that brings together industry, academia, and society to drive significant scientific advancements in key AI domains and ensure the widespread adoption of these advancements to enhance Europe’s competitiveness. Open innovation competitions have emerged as a successful approach in promoting innovation, attracting talent, and securing capital in various fields. Initiatives like the AI-BOOST project aim to establish a prominent open challenge prize program that serves as a benchmark for the European AI community.
The AI-BOOST project will enable scientific breakthroughs in key AI areas by attracting the best research teams to collaborate. It will also facilitate the adoption of AI, robotics, and data innovations across various sectors through collaborative efforts. Additionally, it aims to enhance the uptake of AI talent by European industries by engaging students and emerging talents in competitions. Moreover, the project seeks to increase private investment in AI research by offering appealing and effective approaches.
