The rapid transformation of the energy sector, driven by digitalisation, decentralisation and the integration of renewable energy sources, is creating new and evolving skill requirements, particularly in Smart Grids.
However, existing education and training systems often struggle to keep pace with these changes. There is a significant mismatch between industry needs and the skills currently provided through higher education and vocational training programmes.
SG-SKILL addresses this challenge by developing a European Blueprint for skills in Smart Grids. The project identifies current and future occupational profiles and maps the associated skill needs across the energy value chain.
Based on this analysis, SG-SKILL designs and pilots innovative higher education curricula and vocational education and training programmes, ensuring strong alignment with industry requirements.
The project delivers scalable, flexible and future-proof training solutions that support upskilling and reskilling across the EU.
SG-SKILL will generate educational, industrial and societal impacts. The project will modernise higher education and vocational programmes, improve employability, and support upskilling and reskilling across the energy sector.
By increasing the availability of qualified professionals, SG-SKILL will enhance the competitiveness of European industry and contribute to the successful implementation of the energy transition and the objectives of the European Green Deal.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Erasmus+ Programme under Grant Agreement Nº 101246216.

“SG-SKILL is driving a European skills blueprint to close the talent gap in Smart Grids, aligning education and industry as a key enabler of the energy transition”
