In an effort to weave stronger ties between Guatemala and Europe, Zabala Innovation is involved in an ambitious project to boost the quadruple helix model in the Central American country. The main objective is clear: to increase the participation of Guatemalan organisations in the prestigious European programmes Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe.
The project, promoted by the EU Delegation in Guatemala, has a team of multidisciplinary experts. Zabala Innovation will provide expert advice on issues related to Horizon Europe, while the consortium leader, CONEXX-EU, and Fundación Pro Verde, will provide expertise in specific areas such as Erasmus+ and sustainable development, respectively.
The European Union has set the transition towards a greener and more digital economy as one of its main priorities, both internally and in its relations with third countries. Flagship programmes such as Horizon Europe aim to boost sustainable development and foster international collaboration to address global challenges through technological innovation and digitisation.
For Guatemala, participating in European programmes represents a unique opportunity to strengthen its social and academic fabric, as well as to boost its economy towards a more prosperous and sustainable future. While participation in these calls for proposals is no easy task, Zabala Innovation is committed to providing the necessary support so that Guatemala can make the most of these opportunities.
The Conecta Europa project is also supported by the Government of Guatemala through institutions linked to academia and the promotion of science and technology initiatives, thus reinforcing the shared commitment to foster multi-stakeholder collaborations.
With a focus on capacity building and collaborative networking, within Conecta Europa, Zabala Innovation will work hand in hand with Focal Points and representatives of Guatemalan organisations to increase their participation in Horizon Europe calls. This effort will not only benefit Guatemala, but will also contribute to mutual enrichment between Europe and Latin America, promoting a more inclusive and sustainable development in both regions.
From the Third Countries Area, Zabala Innovation is committed to supporting initiatives such as Conecta Europa, which will bring European funds closer to academic and social institutions in Guatemala. It is a crucial step towards a more collaborative and prosperous future for both continents.
