WORLD WATER DAY

Zabala Innovation stands out in the management of water projects in Spain

World Water Day

On March 21st, the Zabala Innovation office in Seville (Andalusia) celebrated World Water Day with a special activity aimed at showcasing our strength as a company in water management, while also emphasizing the importance of this management for Andalusia, a region particularly affected by climate change due to its climatic characteristics.

Seminars, workshops, and conferences were held, bringing together experts who discussed best practices and technologies to optimize water use in the region.

Since 2016, Zabala Innovation has provided services to EMASESA, one of the country’s leading water management companies, achieving a return of nearly 100 million euros from this contract. This success is just one example of our commitment and capability in the efficient and sustainable management of water. Furthermore, our experience with EMASESA has enabled us to develop new methodologies and tools that can be applied to other projects in different regions.

Additionally, Zabala Innovation has been involved in two landmark projects related to urban water management: UIA CartujaQanat and LIFE Watercool. The UIA CartujaQanat project focuses on revitalizing streets in a climatically changing world, while LIFE Watercool addresses climate change adaptation in urban areas through efficient water use systems. These projects aim not only to improve the quality of life for citizens but also to promote innovation and sustainability in urban settings.

Our participation in the PERTEs for the digitalization of the urban water cycle, supported by the MRR, has also been significant. We have participated in 10 of these approved projects, achieving a return of 1.3 billion euros and a wide territorial distribution. These projects not only improve the efficiency and sustainability of the water cycle but also drive innovation and digitalization in the sector. Zabala Innovation’s strategy includes collaboration with universities, research centers, and tech companies to develop advanced solutions that address current and future water management challenges.

World Water Day at Zabala Innovation

The day included a tour of the CartujaQanat project, guided by Mari Paz Montero, industrial engineering PhD from the Thermodynamics group at the University of Seville and one of the technological fathers of the project, along with Daniel García, who contributed to the theoretical conception and social narrative of the project.

Rosa Hurtado, manager of the LIFE Watercool project for over four years, provided a detailed overview of the project’s progress and impact. She highlighted how the project addresses climate change adaptation in urban areas through efficient water use systems, thus promoting not only environmental sustainability but also innovation in urban water management.

Finally, Andrés Flores and Carmen Falante, recognized experts in the field, conducted a thorough analysis of the Urban Water Cycle Digitalization Program (PERTE). They emphasized the significant impact these projects have on the efficiency and sustainability of the water cycle, as well as on the sector’s digitalization. Thanks to participation in ten of these approved projects, Zabala Innovation has achieved a return of 1.3 billion euros and a wide territorial distribution, consolidating itself as a leader in water management and innovation.

At Zabala Innovation, sustainability and innovation are intertwined, with water serving as a bridge between different areas of knowledge, such as Environment and Regions. Our integrated and also collaborative approach allows us to effectively and sustainably address the challenges of climate change and water management. We work closely with local communities, governments, and international organizations to implement projects that not only benefit the environment but also drive economic and social development in the specific region.
