Sérgio Vilela holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Aveiro (Portugal). His thesis focused on the preparation of hybrid organic-inorganic materials (metal-organic frameworks) with several applications in strategic emerging social areas such as energy, carbon dioxide capture, storage and conversion, and catalysis, among others. After more than 10 years dedicated to scientific research, passing through prestigious European universities and research centres, he took up the challenge of becoming part of Zabala Innovation, becoming an R&D&I consultant, his main objective being to promote and maximise Spanish and European innovation.
Sérgio has participated in the preparation and management of R&D projects for small, medium and large companies, universities, research centres and foundations, mainly in the fields of energy, environment, transport and logistics. These projects have been submitted to the calls for proposals of the main European programmes, such as H2020, LIFE, Innovation Fund (large and small scale) and the EFC Transport Facility. Finally, he is responsible for ERC (European Research Council) calls and co-responsible for MSCA (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions) under Pillar 1 of the new European Horizon Europe programme.
