Zabala Innovation intensifies its operations in the UK

Horizon Europe y UK

Zabala Innovation’s presence in the United Kingdom is boosted by the up-to-date news that the British country will continue to participate in Horizon Europe, the main framework program to boost innovation in the European Union, as of January 1, 2024.

Since the London office was opened in 2015, our consultancy has demonstrated in the UK its experience in obtaining funding for all types of sectors, especially the university sector. However, the UK’s exit from the EU led to a slowdown in the pace of work, which is now intensifying again with the UK’s return to Horizon Europe.

“The UK’s return to the framework program is excellent news as it ensures a stable and secure framework for collaboration between its organizations and those of the European Union. These collaborations have historically been beneficial as they are a great boost to innovation and economic growth in key technologies,” explains Camino Correia, director of European Projects at Zabala Innovation.

A great relationship with universities

Zabala Innovation has managed to finance European projects for entities as diverse as TWI, AM Technology, ALSTOM Power, or the International Road Assesment Programme (IRAP), among others. It has also contributed to the development of major trans-European projects such as SLAIN, EIROS or AIRLITE.

It is worth mentioning the close collaboration that Zabala Innovation maintains with research clients, such as the universities of Bristol, Coventry, Brunel, Aberdeen, Surrey, Sheffield, and Edinburgh. Our consultancy firm is an expert in Horizon Europe’s Pillar 1 of Excellent Science, as it has already demonstrated in Horizon2020, the predecessor program of Horizon Europe.

“Accompanying the researcher in Pillar 1 programs requires a ‘tailor-made suit’. We can help researchers identifying their needs and prepare individual coaching programs or specific tailor-made services/support to submit a competitive proposal”, concludes Sara Marin, senior consultant in European projects at Zabala Innovation.

Horizon Europe and UK

The new stage of the United Kingdom in Horizon Europe endorses the importance of collaboration between the UK and the European Union, as both are key strategic partners in science and research worldwide.

In this new phase, the United Kingdom will have to contribute financially to the European Union budget with about 2,600 million euros per year. With this agreement, the United Kingdom will be able to participate on equal terms with the EU Member States.

Horizon Europe is the world’s largest research program, with a budget of 95.5 billion euros (in addition to the contributions of the associated countries).
