André Guimarães

André Guimarães is a civil engineer specialising in marine and coastal engineering. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering, and a doctorate in coastal engineering from the University of Aveiro (Portugal), the latter in collaboration with the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Porto. He also participated in a full semester of the MSc in Coastal Engineering at the Technical University of Delft (Netherlands), as an exchange student during his PhD.

His combined professional experience as a researcher at the university and as a project manager and designer in the private sector, in one of Portugal’s oldest and most reputable national companies in the maritime and port sector, has given him more than seven years’ experience and specialisation in the maritime, port and coastal sector. During this time, he has worked on a wide variety of national and international research and design projects, developing additional skills in the areas of public and private tendering and proposal preparation.

He is currently part of the European Projects Department at Zabala Innovation’s Lisbon office, where he focuses mainly on proposal writing and project management.
